Samling Artist Profile: Maria Ostroukhova

Today we’re profiling Samling Artist mezzo-soprano Maria Ostroukhova.

Maria was born in 1991 in Moscow into a musical family and studied piano for 15 years before enrolling at the Moscow State Conservatoire. In 2012 she was accepted into the Royal College of Music on the Vocal faculty as a Scholar where she graduated with Distinction in 2013 before returning to RCM to study on a Master of Performance Course, again graduating with Distinction earlier this year.

Maria has been praised in recent reviews as ‘a fine dramatic soprano’ (The Guardian) and for her ‘lovely even, straight toned voice with a warm lower register’ (Robert Hugill, Planet Hugill blog).

Outside of the world of music, Maria loves horse riding and also crafts such as crochet and embroidery.

You can read much more about Maria here, or read this Bachtrack interview with her earlier this year at the London Handel Festival vocal competition, where she took second place, receiving the Michael Oliver Prize.

Samling’s public Masterclass and Concert takes place this Saturday 28 November, led by internationally-renowned soprano Joan Rodgers and pianist Malcolm Martineau, as well as David Gowland, Artistic Director of the Royal Opera’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme, and Broadway theatre and opera director Tim Carroll.
