Jong Sun Woo is a collaborative pianist, praised for her ‘poetic and characterful’ playing (The Guardian). Most recently, Jong Sun won the Pianist Prize at Wigmore Hall/Bollinger International Song Competition 2024 and with her duo partner Giacomo Schmidt, the 1st prize at Wolf International Art Song Competition 2024 in Stuttgart, 2nd prize and the audience prize at Schubert Lied Duo Competition 2023 in Dortmund. Jong Sun also received the Gerald Moore Award from the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2022 and the Pianist Prize from Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards in 2021.
Jong Sun was a scholar of Lied Akademie 2021/22 Liedzentrum Heidelberger Frühling, directed by Thomas Hampson. She was recently selected for Wigmore French Song Exchange 23/24, led by Dame Felicty Lott and François Le Roux and as part of the programme, she will be performing at Wigmore Hall, London and Salle Cortot, Paris. She is also a Samling Artist and Britten-Pears Artist.
Jong Sun started studying with Patsy Toh at Junior Royal Academy of Music and the Purcell School. After finishing her undergraduate studies with First Class honours at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she won a full scholarship at Bard College, New York to study with the late Peter Serkin. She came back to London and gained her Masters and Artist Diploma in Piano Accompaniment at Guildhall, studying with Eugene Asti, Pamela Lidiard, Carole Presland and Dr. Bretton Brown. She graduated with distinction and was awarded ‘Concert Recital Diploma’, awarded for her outstanding final recital. She is currently mentored by Sebastian Wybrew.
