It was with great sadness that we heard that Emily Hoh died on 4 December 2024 at the Princess Alice Hospice in Esher, aged 27. Emily became a Samling Artist in 2023 when she joined us for a week-long residency working with Sir Mark Elder, Patricia MacMahon, Jonathan Ware and Scott Brooksbank. She returned to us in October 2023 to work with our Academy Singers. She will be greatly missed by all of us at Samling who had the privilege of knowing her and our thoughts are with her family and friends.

Biography

Swedish-Taiwanese pianist Emily Hoh graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2022 with distinction, studying an MPerf in collaborative piano under Simon Lepper, Roger Vignoles, and Kathron Sturrock. In 2023 she won the Royal Over-seas League Award for Collaborative Pianists and the first pianist prize at the inaugural Ashburnam English Song competition. She was a Britten-Pears Young Artist, a SongEasel Young Artist, with recent performance venues including Oxford International Song Festival, the Princess Alexandria Hall at the Royal Overseas League, Wigmore Hall, and Snape Maltings in the 2024 Aldeburgh Festival. She was accompanist-in-residence at Westminster School and accompanied regularly at the Royal College of Music.

Prior to her music studies, Emily read BSc Psychology at University College London where she graduated with first-class honours.
