Samling Academy offers a unique programme of intensive coaching and performance opportunities to young singers who live or study in the North East of England. In this film, soprano Zoë Jackson explains how Samling Academy has supported her in her journey to music college, and shares her memories of singing baroque opera with John Butt and the Dunedin Consort in the 2018 Samling Academy Opera production of John Blow’s ‘Venus and Adonis’.
In the first of a series of short videos about what makes Samling Institute special, tenor Luis Gomes talks about how important being a Samling Artist has been to his career and how he keeps going back to the things he learned during his time with us in his practice and performance today.
If you’re interested in classical singing, Samling Academy offers excellent opportunities to work with renowned singers, coaches and pianists, culminating in performances at Sage Gateshead and across the North East.

Leading up to the final week of preparation before opening Venus and Adonis, music blogger and critic Jane Shuttleworth caught up with two of our Samling Academy singers, soprano Zoë Jackson and baritone Peter Dunn.
It is with great sadness that we said farewell to Bob Bowman in February. As a Trustee and a generous benefactor of Samling from the charity’s earliest days, he was at the very heart of our organisation and will be greatly missed by us all.
On the 9–11 March Samling will be auditioning young singers from or based in the North East of England. Up to 30 singers will be selected to participate in Samling Academy 2018.
