Five singers from Samling Academy gave a special private concert at Matfen Hall Hotel as part of HRH The Duke of Gloucester’s visit to Northumberland.
Two Samling Artists have taken home top prizes at the NEUE STIMMEN International Singing Competition on 14 October 2017. Bulgarian mezzo-soprano Svetlina Stoyanova (Samling Artist 2017) won First Prize, while German baritone Johannes Kammler (Samling Artist 2014) took home Second Prize.
Samling Artist (2013) Catriona Morison has been declared winner of the prestigious BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, taking home £15,000 of prize money. The 31-year-old Scottish mezzo-soprano wowed audiences in the final round of competition, broadcast live across the world on 18 June. She performed works by Rossini, R. Strauss, Ravel and Purcell.
Beginning and ending with Spring, Samling’s annual showcase explores the transience and beauty of the natural world through the seasons. A gathering of Samling Artists from over the years present mankind’s response in song and spoken word.
On 11 and 13 April, six Samling Artists (sopranos Rowan Pierce and Elin Pritchard, countertenor Tim Morgan, tenor Timothy Langston and baritones Benjamin Lewis and Christopher Nairne) sang with Royal Northern Sinfonia and Chorus under esteemed conductor Nicholas McGegan in stirring performances of Handel’s powerful oratorio, Israel in Egypt.
On 17 February, four Samling Artists (soprano Rowan Pierce, mezzo-soprano Anna Stéphany, tenor Luis Gomes and baritone Johannes Kammler) joined forces onstage with Samling Patron Sir Thomas Allen, Samling Academy Singers and Royal Northern Sinfonia under the baton of Nicholas Chalmers.
To mark Samling’s 21st anniversary, we are celebrating our ‘Coming of Age’ on Friday 17 February at Sage Gateshead in a a gala evening concert saluting the music of Vienna. Patron of Samling and internationally acclaimed baritone Sir Thomas Allen joins four of our most talented Samling Artists and our Samling Academy Singers. We are thrilled that conductor Nicholas Chalmers will lead the esteemed Royal Northern Sinfonia.
Often as we draw closer to the season of goodwill we think about how we can support others to make a difference. Starting at midday Tuesday 29 November and lasting 72 hours your support has the potential to double to benefit Samling Academy.
