Samling Artist Profile: Kiandra Howarth

In the first of a series of profiles about the outstanding young singers and pianists taking part in this month’s Samling Artist Programme, today we are introducing Australian soprano Kiandra Howarth.

Kiandra Howarth studied in Queensland and Salzburg before joining the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in 2013, where Bachtrack wrote of her performance in Così fan tutte that her ‘feisty Fiordiligi was a highlight; her Come scoglio displayed excellent tone and superb top notes’.

During her time at Covent Garden Kiandra was also called up to sing the lead role of Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore opposite Bryn Terfel, after the principal soprano was forced to withdraw due to illness.

Last year she won the CulturArte Prize at Plácido Domingo’s Operalia Competition for young opera singers.

You can read more about Kiandra on this Young Artist Profile  on the Royal Opera House website or in this interview in Australian arts magazine Limelight just after she won the CulturArte Prize.

Kiandra will be joined by seven other Samling Artists in a public Masterclass and Concert on Saturday 27 February at Sage Two, Sage Gateshead, led by internationally-renowned mezzo Ann Murray DBE, the great German baritone Olaf Bär and Royal Opera House pianist Caroline Dowdle.
