Samling Futures

FREE INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOPS FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Discover the world of classical singing

In schools across the North East there are students who have the potential to become classical singers – even if they don’t know it yet! Samling Futures opens up the world of classical singing to everyone by bringing world-class opera stars and our Academy Singers to schools and music hubs.

Samling Futures illuminates the wide range of skills that classical singers have to master. These include vocal technique and musicality; understanding and communicating the meaning of a text; singing in foreign languages and using movement to bring a performance to life. It introduces the possibilities that a career in classical singing can offer.

Samling Futures workshops are led by professional singers and pianists who are alumni of our acclaimed Samling Artist Programme. In previous years, Samling Futures has been led by opera singers Anush Hovhannisyan, Nick Pritchard, Katherine Aitken, Neil Balfour, Heather Lowe, Dominic Sedgwick, Louise Alder, Milan Siljanov and Nicky Spence and pianists Ella O’Neill, Lana Bode and Somi Kim. The Samling Artist leaders will work with current members of Samling Academy in masterclass sessions which will give an insight into the art of classical singing and a window into what happens at Samling Academy. The masterclass sessions will be followed by group singing activities, Q&As and opportunities for students in the audience to work with the team, The workshops are informal and friendly, reflecting the positive and supportive atmosphere of Samling Academy.

Samling Futures is provided at no cost to schools. If you are interesting in hosting a workshop in your school, please email Jane Shuttleworth, Marketing and Projects Manager, on enquiries@samling.org.uk to discuss availability.
